Individual Planning - Album Covers

amazing

news of the world album cover- queen

here this queen album cover for news of the world is actually an old science fiction drawing. the colours used are quite muddy and dull to depict a rather dull, negative mood

blur best of

blur- greatest hits

here the greatest hits album cover was designed and drawn by julian opie, an artist, and this cover shows off his style or art very easily. it uses blocks of colour (green, pink, blue and yellow/orange) showing a pop art style picture resembling an interpretation of the band individually in this style of art. it depicts their features in a simple form though it is still recognisable to be them. the colours used are bold and bright possibly to reflect the music featuring on the album

hot

david bowie-aladdin sane

a medium close up on the artist to focus on him rather than the title which is relatively small compared to the artist. The colour of the album title is faded blue to orange and centre bottom, but doesnt stand out dramtically from the white background. the artists name is in the same font and colours as the album title but place in the right top corner. this has no picture behind, as if to make the name of the artist seem more important than the title. a white background has been used to make david bowies colour of make up and hair stand out from the cover. his eyes are closed as if to add mystery for the veiwer, as it doesnt appear that he knows we are looking at him, almost like we are stumbling across him, not knowing whether we should look or not. the colours suggest otherwise, telling us to look at him. the zigzag style makeup is a trait of his former identity being ziggy stardust, thus keeping part of his past with him in this new album.
